Survey on WHA72(13) public health implications of the Nagoya Protocol

20 December 2019 – 28 February 2020

In May 2019, the World Health Assembly considered a report by the WHO Director-General on “the public health implications of the implementation of the Nagoya Protocol” and requested the Director-General, through WHA decision 72(13), inter alia, to:

  • broaden engagement with Member States, the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, relevant international organizations and relevant stakeholders; and,
  • provide information on current pathogen-sharing practices and arrangements, the implementation of access and benefit-sharing measures, as well as the potential public health outcomes and other implications.

As part of the Secretariat’s work implementing WHA decision 72(13), a survey requesting information in furtherance of the Assembly’s decision is now open to all stakeholders in English, French and Spanish.

The survey has been coordinated with the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, which also provides secretariat services for the Nagoya Protocol.
