Certifying countries for interruption of yaws transmission

For countries that have achieved interruption of transmission (i.e. no new cases for at least 3 consecutive years), WHO supports countries in the development of a dossier (detailed report) that is submitted for the review of WHO independent expert body. In addition organizes a visit of International Verification Team of experts to the countries to confirm the claim that interruption of transmission has been achieved. The recommendations of the International Verification Team  are submitted to WHO for action. WHO has produced a document to guide countries in this process. India is the only country to be certified by WHO in 2016 but there are a number of countries that were never endemic and will be certified in due course.
