High-Level Meeting on Diplomacy for Health Security and Emergency Preparedness

On 24–26 March 2020, Ministers of health, foreign affairs and finance from the African and Eastern Mediterranean regions will meet to accelerate progress on preparing for and responding to health emergencies.

The meeting, hosted by Morocco, Rwanda, WHO, and the World Bank, will also bring together donors to international health, multilateral organizations, United Nations agencies and others to work together for global health security.

A world at risk

A world at risk’ - the first annual report on global preparedness for health emergencies – warns that the world faces an acute risk of devastating regional or global disease epidemics or pandemics. The report, launched in September 2019, notes that the world is not prepared to tackle health emergencies, with just one-third of countries having the capacities required under the International Health Regulations.

To advocate for swift global action in preparing for health emergencies, a major international outreach campaign will be launched at the conference.
