e-Health in the Western Pacific

eHealth is defined as the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) for health. Because of the capacity of eHealth and mobile health (mHealth) applications to help provide opportunities and solutions to improve health service access by the poor and vulnerable people in remote and disadvantaged communities, eHealth is increasingly employed in more countries in the Western Pacific Region and is an important tool in attaining universal health coverage. In recent years, there has been a paradigm shift away from the rationale of eHealth as a cost reduction and efficiency gains measure towards increasing access and quality.
