WUN briefs the UN General Assembly on health in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals

The President of the UN General Assembly, held an informal briefing to UN Member States on the health goal (SDG 3) to ensure healthy lives and promoting well-being for all, cuts across all aspects of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Dr. Nata Menabde, outlined the current global health situation, addressed challenges and highlighted the progress being made in the area of health systems strengthening, health emergencies, migration and preparations for the 2018 High Level Meetings on Tuberculosis (TB).

Werner Obermeyer, gave an overview of the progress achieved in the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases and informed on upcoming events related to NCDs. Members of the Interagency Working Group on Antimicrobial Resistance, updated Member States on the outcome of their meeting, which took place at the UN Headquarters earlier in the week, and appealed for support in the global effort to combat antimicrobial resistance.
