Overview
Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) was first isolated in September 2012 from a patient in Saudi Arabia who presented two months earlier with severe acute respiratory infection and acute renal failure. Retrospective testing of samples in Jordan identified earlier cases from a nosocomial outbreak in April 2012.
