No reports received from the South Sudan Guinea worm Eradication Programme during January–June 2019.



Since 2014, a nationwide cash reward has been offered for the voluntary reporting of dracunculiasis cases. If you have seen a case of guinea-worm disease in South Sudan, please call 00 211 5644 3990/00 211 9352 01181/00 211 9151 79815 or report to the nearest health facility to receive the cash a reward of SPP 5000.

  • A person coming forward with a un-emerge guinea worm will received SSP 5,000.
  • A person coming forward with guinea worm that has already emerged from the person’s body or after the blister has ruptured will receive SSP 2,500
  • A person giving information that informs the programme about a case of guinea-worm disease will receive SSP 1000.

South Sudan reported 10 human cases from January to December 2018 compared with 0 cases for the same period in 2017, and 5 cases in 2016. WHO has information on 9 cases described as follows:

South Sudan has reported zero cases for 18 consecutive months since its last indigenous case occurred in November 2016; however, the first 3 human cases were reported in June 2018.

Of the 12 339 rumours reported, 99% (12269) were investigated within 24 hours.
