Developing new guidelines on physical activity and sedentary behaviour

WHO has initiated the rigorous process of updating the 2010 Global Recommendations on Physical Activity for Health for young people and adults, to support the implementation of the Global Action Plan on Physical Activity 2018-2030.

A Guideline Development group  was established with representation from each WHO region across a range of technical areas and bringing together guideline end-users with practical experience in implementing national physical activity promotion programmes in a variety of settings. The group, led by co-chairs by Professors Emmanuel Stamatakis and  Greet Cardon, met in Geneva, Switzerland and decided on the scope of work to be addressed. Sub-groups have been formed to lead the work on particular population groups (youth, adults, older adults, pregnant women, people living with chronic conditions or impairments) to facilitate the review of extensive scientific evidence that will form the basis for the recommendations.
