Overview
WHO coordinates with a broad range of partner agencies within the UN system to ensure that health is properly represented in the international climate change agenda. It is part of several global coalitions such as the Health, Environment and Climate Change coalition (HECCC) and the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC).
Additionally, WHO has a joint office with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and a joint programme with the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
Within WHO, there are several interdepartmental collaborations between the climate change group and related areas of work such as air pollution, urban health, energy, gender, nutrition and universal health coverage (UHC).
WHO collaborates with a network of climate and health experts and regularly convenes the WHO Civil Society Working Group on Climate Change and Health to ensure broad public participation in decision making processes.
WHO is actively involved in the international negotiations and implementation of the Paris Agreement, the global climate agreement to mitigate the harmful sources of climate change and protect human health from climate change impacts. WHO develops discussion papers, guidance documents, and recommendations to improve health protection in international health and climate change policy processes.
